Every decision in our life is based on incentives. If you take the time to do something, you want to get something out of it. It’s human nature – after all, nothing in life is free. Everything in some way, takes up a resource we have – whether it be time, or money, or effort. If we’re going to give up something, we want something in return. The same is true with blogging.

As any experienced blogger knows, starting and maintaining a blog takes all three of the above examples listed. Starting a blog is no easy task. You have to pay money to get a web host. You have to pay money to get a domain name. You may even need to pay money to get a designer. Many start blogging in hopes of making more money in return, but often times this is not the case.

But far more than money, blogging takes time – a resource that is essentially priceless.

Some bloggers will spend hundreds of hours building up their blog before they even receive their first check. Hundreds of hours before you get any money for all your time and effort. Some are inspired by stories of bloggers getting rich online, but they are often left disappointed when they realize how much time and effort starting and maintaining a blog actually takes. So what happens? They give up.

But you aren’t like that. You’re here right now, reading this article. Striving to improve – and achieve whatever it is that’s inspiring you to keep going.

Everyone has a different reason for blogging. A different reason to keep updating their blog everyday, even if the money paying out isn’t great.

Maybe it’s the hope that one day, it’ll finally happen. You’ll start making decent money, and all your time and effort will pay off. Maybe it’s even the hope that you’ll become famous.

You have something that inspires you to keep blogging. If you didn’t, you wouldn’t continue doing it; there’d be no point in doing so. After all, would you keep working if your boss told you he was going to stop paying you? I doubt it.

For many people, it’s not about money at all. When I started my first blog years ago, money was the last thing on my mind. In fact, in my eyes, money was only considered a bonus to the real prize of blogging:

Helping people.

Knowing the articles we write may be seen by and help thousands of people from around the world. Every time I get emails saying I helped someone, or that I changed someone’s life – even in a small way, it brings a sort of happiness that money can not buy.

That’s my inspiration for blogging – what’s yours?

  1. Hi James, I’m in eve of young people like yourself that blog and that you started at the age11. WOW – Truly amazing.
I love blogging to help other people with their websites and teach what I’ve learned in the past 3 years. There is so much to learn online that it is never ending. I’ve met some wonderful people via blogging and that’s something that money cannot buy. I hope oneday to monetize it to the point that it can become a full time job. That would be a bonus for me 🙂

    1. Hi Lisa! Nice to see you, I’ve been a huge fan of Inspire To Thrive for a while now.
I’ve been trying to get more young people into blogging, going as far as running local classes or visiting local high schools to try and get more people interested. I believe blogging is something that can be done by all ages, and the sooner you start, the better!

You’re right that there’s so many great people to met here online. As bloggers we put ourselves out there, and connect with people all over the world. That’s something that’s hard to do otherwise.

      Thanks for stopping by!

  2. It’s great to happen on this post bro.

Money, Time and Effort are truly what we need to be a blogger and if you don’t understand how to flip through all these three you may end up frustrated and even quit blogging, which is the last thing I ever wanted to do.

Just when I was convinced about blogging, I decided upon quiting my day job, not because they weren’t paying fine…of course they were but I realized that to truly thrive like “Inspire to Thrive” (kidding) I needed a lot of time and conscious efforts.

Like you, James, money wasn’t the incentive…nah! Rather it was the knowing that I can actually help someone get through some huddles through sharing the little knowledge God’s given me through the information I have well garnered over the years.

How I love helping people! Ts this feeling that drove me into blogging and that feeling continue to increase and it’s now a kinda of burning desire that if I don’t do a day, I just feel almost incomplete.

Sometimes, I go to the extent of meeting people to ask them if they needed help…something I still did yesterday as I just found out a trick of opening a valid paypal in my country – Nigeria. (You know paypal blocked us from using their service, guess we are too corrupt or something). 😀

So James, I found my blogging inspiration from the mind-set and the realization that I can actually “help people to succeed”. 🙂

Thanks for the share matey – do have yourself a great day.

    Sam
