In today’s world, every single person needs to start a business, or have some sort of alternative income source that is separate from their job.

I want you to get this thought into your head. I want you to keep it in there, circling around and around like a mantra:

Owning your own business is the quickest ticket to freedom.

With Freedom Comes Power

Deep down inside, all of us want to be happy. I think that goes without saying. In my eyes, happiness is the most important thing in life, period.

We are happiest when we are free to make our own decisions. Maybe you love the job you work at. That’s great – but you may not love the fact that you’re forced to get up early every morning and go to it if you want to maintain the lifestyle you’ve grown accustomed to.

We all have those sort of days. Days where we’d rather just stay in bed and be lazy. Days where opportunities arise that we have to turn down because we have other obligations. We all have days where we are forced to do things we’d rather not do.

Even if you do not wish to quit your job, having that option is nice. Not only because it gives you more freedom, but because it also gives you more power.

Let’s not beat around the bush. Everyone in business is replaceable, and the goal of a company is to make the most amount of money it possibly can. This means that ideally for your employer, they would pay the least amount of money to you that they can to keep you around.

When you have the power to walk away from your job, you can no longer be pushed around. You can flat out refuse to put up with the BS that often accompanies working a corporate job. You can make demands and be sure that your expectations are met. Who cares if your employer gets upset? You don’t need your job. You only have to work with terms that you are completely satisfied with. This is a very liberating feeling.

A Rough Road Lies Ahead

I often wonder what the labor market will look like in the not so distant future. We shouldn’t freak out and blow things out of proportion, but we have to be realistic about what the future actually holds for us. In my eyes, it’s both exciting and frightening at the same time.

Technology is evolving at an incredibly rapid rate, and there is no doubt that many low-skilled jobs are going to be completely automated within the next few decades. We’re not just looking at robots either – technology like self-driving cars will automate and replace entire industries.

It’s true that new jobs will evolve out of this new technology, but it’s still going to be an issue for people who are not prepared for it. While automation should lead to an overall better life for us, it is scary to think that your job could be replaced by a computer.

Regardless of what happens to your job now, the one thing our planet will always need is entrepreneurs. Entrepreneurs can not be replaced. They provide the products for people to spend their money on – and people will always be spending money.

You Have Two Jobs

Unless you’re already a full-time entrepreneur, you have two jobs right now.

Your first job is your traditional normal job. Your 9 to 5. The job you need to put food on the table, pay for your living expenses and hopefully your savings and investments as well. Without this job, you’d be homeless. You can’t quit this yet, because let me tell you – it’s pretty hard to run a business from underneath a bridge. I haven’t tried, but I’d imagine it gets pretty cold and the internet connection sucks.

No, you need to keep that job until you have the power to walk away.2280340261_c0297d414d_o

Your second job is your entrepreneurial ventures. Your business. Your ticket to freedom. You need this job to escape your other one.

The great thing about this job is that there are no limits. You can work as little or as much as you like, and actually get rewarded for working to your full potential. There are no income limits. Nobody has ever become a billionaire working a 9 to 5, after all.

Until you are making a livable income from entrepreneurship, you must do both concurrently. It’s hard. It sucks. If you’re like most people, the last thing you want to do after you come home from work is go and do more work. But at least with this, you can control your own destiny.

And quite frankly, if you’re not focusing enough time on your business, it’s only going to get harder as more and more jobs are replaced by technology.

Entrepreneurship Doesn’t Have To Be The Only Way

While I do whole-heartedly believe everyone needs to start a business, there is one other way you can quit your job and retire early.

That is by buying pieces of other companies with the money you earn from your traditional job. Putting your money to work for you. Investing.

I actually have an entire course on this topic that I highly recommend checking out if you value your freedom. Achieve Financial Independence And Retire Early teaches you how to make changes to your spending habits and safely and easily invest your money to achieve retirement in as little as 7 years.

I know this sounds too good to be true, but the numbers do not lie. Over 900 people have already enrolled in the course and love it. Plus, I’m there answering questions every single day to make sure you get all the help you need.

Think about this – what would you do with all the free time if you were able to retire 7 years from now? This can seriously be life changing. If early retirement sounds appealing to you, click here to learn more about the course.

You’ll be glad you did!

  1. Owning an online business has been a key to freedom for me James. Such power points here.

If you crave freedom more than you fear doing uncomfortable stuff you’ll be A OK, no matter what you go through resistance wise.

    Thanks for the helpful share!

    1. Hi Ryan!

That’s the thing, you’ve really got to create that freedom, because it’s so hard. It really is. And if you don’t truly want something and are willing to sacrafice anything, no rational person would continue doing something so challenging when the rewards aren’t immediately there.

Of course, we don’t hear about those people because they never go onto succeed. As you said, people who crave freedom and are able to push through the resistance and that’s what ultimately leads them towards success.

    1. Hi Henrico! Good to meet you.

Right, we all need money to live a normal lifestyle but it has to come from somewhere. We have the power to make it ourselves but most people rely on an employer to provide it for them. Unfortunately that comes at the expense of giving up a huge portion of your life. Not something too appealing to me personally, and probably not to you either.

It doesn’t have to be that way, but sadly most people don’t realize they have another choice.

Thanks for stopping by Henrico, hope to see you again soon!

  3. Hi James,

I decided that I would rather not work for anybody while I was still in High School. This decision took my friends and family by surprise…however, after over a decade of leaving High School, everyone now appreciates exactly what my vision for the future was!

It’s good that you’re thinking in the same direction and more importantly, inspiring your readers to do same. In this world of ours, you’re either a busines owner or a business owner owns you – not a pretty idea at all!

    Do enjoy the day!

    Always,

    1. Hi Akaahan! Apologies for taking so long to get back to you.

Me and you have a very similar story! I decided entrepreneurship was the right path for me when I was in high school and to this day I still have family and friends that think it would be a better idea for me to go back to college and work a regular corporate job. No thanks…

I hope 10 years from now everyone I know realizes beyond a doubt that this was the right choice, as seems to have been the case for you. I am glad everything has worked out for you and your vision for the future turned out to be the right one.

Hope to see you here again soon Akaahan!

  4. Hi James,

Everyone is searching happiness in his or her life. the definition of happiness may very from person to person for example one person can only be happy if he or she is able to earn lots of money and someone else may get happy even if he or she is earning less.

I think it is all about preference and choice people have in their lifestyle.

One of the ways to earn good money and at the same time have freedom is blogging and making on-line money.

    Thank you.

    1. Hi Pritam!

You’re exactly right. In fact, in my book “The Young Entrepreneur’s Guide To Business, Finance, and Life” I pretty much start off by saying that the most important thing in life is happiness. Whatever makes someone happy is unique to the individual, but in the end that is the only thing that matters.

One thing is for certain though – people are happiest when they are free. Even if they love their job, having the freedom to leave is a nice luxury that unfortunately isn’t possible for so many people.

If anything, owning a profitable business gives you options. And those are something to be cherished.

Thanks for stopping by and giving your input Pritam, I hope to talk to you again soon!
