Never be afraid to experiment.

You are your own boss. You set the rules.

Much of what we’re taught is moreso guidelines than anything else.

And let’s be real here – if you want change, then change things up. Do what everybody else is doing, and you’ll end up like everybody else.

Take it to the next level. Go above and beyond. Or do it different. It’s the only way you’ll be remembered.

Never be afraid to experiment.

  1. Hi James,

I am one to break the rules all the time! Guess it is part of who I am. There cannot be fear of breaking rules because we are unique and we need to do what we believe is right for ourselves and others.

I cannot be one of the sheepople and follow the crowd doing everything everyone else is doing. I have to do things my way. So far so good….it hasn’t let me down.

  2. Hi James. That was very much to the point. I can’t agree more. The way I see it, most of the people setting the rules aren’t trying to accomplish what I’m working on. Also, as far as blogging, for every rule you read on one blog you can find at least one highly successful blog that doesn’t follow that rule. Thanks for breaking the rules.

  3. Hi James,

    Absolutely! There’s no way I want to follow someone else’s rules – that’s why I’m self-employed.

Off topic – but it’s a bit like the “healthy eating” marketplace. One year “butter is evil” – then “butter is wonderful”. Loads more examples, but I won’t labor the point.

You said not to be afraid to experiment. I wonder if this was an experiment on your part and, if so, would be interested to know what your conclusions were.

I’d like to experiment with shorter posts on my own blog. Just got to stop myself waffling on though.

  5. “To be remembered – is the first rule of success. ” – yeah, you’re right. And I remember the another enterpretation of what you said – “You can’t succeed in business if you’re not getting noticed.”©
Breaking the rules – for me it’s not just in business case – it’s in life.
Being master of myself – that is the highest art of my soul.
